Essays on this site start from my notes and an argument I want to make. I use AI tools for research, drafting and redrafting. The essays are rewritten until they say what I mean, and are published under my name.

I don't treat AI as a source. Facts that carry an argument are checked against a source and listed in a Sources section at the end of the essay, linked where reasonably possible. Older essays, written before this check was introduced, may not have one. Ideas and passages that come from others are credited.

Artworks are selected through Open Museum, which brings together the open-access collections of leading museums. Each is credited to its artist and collection. Illustrations are mostly SVG diagrams, drawn in code. Header images are mostly generated with AI; some are my own photographs or come from Open Museum.

Page analytics on this site are cookieless and aggregate. Requests from automated readers, such as AI agents, are logged in more detail and kept for 90 days; see Privacy. Machine-readable versions for AI agents: /llms.txt, /llms-full.txt, and a Markdown version of each essay at /essays/<slug>.md (its address with .md in place of the trailing slash).
